Tuscan and Doric Caps and Bases
A porch column is comprised of a shaft, capital, and base. All of our columns are available with Tuscan caps and bases from the same material as the shaft. The Tuscan style is considered standard with round columns and, depending on the material of the shaft, is often used as the standard cap/base combination for square columns. However, PVC wraps predominately use a craftsman style cap and base which varies in design with non-tapered and tapered columns. We offer standard craftsman cap/base sets for our PVC wraps but the nature of PVC allows for easily customizable caps/bases and shafts for that matter. In addition to our “standard”offering, we also offer Doric caps and bases for all of our columns as well as attic bases.
All of our cap/bases can be altered to fit your aesthetic preferences or fit your existing shafts if you aren’t buying those from us. The plinth or the square portion of any base (the bottommost part) can be removed or the abacus or the square portion of any capital (the uppermost part) can be removed. In addition, we are able to make the plinth or abacus round instead of square on caps/bases for round shafts. We are able to make our hole openings in our round and square caps/bases smaller or bigger to work with your existing column shafts. If your existing shaft sits atop the base, we are also able to plug our bases to accommodate such an installation. In fact our Rope column shafts sit on top of the base rather than inside of it like the majority of our columns. Use our porch column caps and bases to replace rotting wood products, rusting aluminum products, or crumbling concrete or polyurethane products. Our composite materials are guaranteed to last a lifetime.

In addition to our standard capitals and bases, we offer a plethora of Decorative Capitals. Decorative capitals are available in all materials except cellular PVC. This is not to say you can’t use our fiberglass capitals in combination with PVC shafts as both are considered paint-grade products and the differences in color will get covered up when painted. Depending on the diameter of the column shaft, smaller decorative capitals (up to 16” shaft diameters) have an extended neck that slides into the top of the shaft while others (18” shaft diameters and up) have an embedded L-bracket in both the cap and the shaft for ease of installation. Again, all of our capitals can be altered so we can remove extended necks as well as the L-brackets to facilitate the use of our decorative capitals with existing shafts that aren’t ours
